Hi, I’m Summer! My husband Eddie and I started freeze-drying as a way to preserve the harvests from our small farm.
We wanted a way to keep fresh ingredients longer, reduce food waste, and create healthy snacks to enjoy year-round. That’s what led us to discover the benefits of freeze-drying—an incredible food preservation method with endless possibilities.
But when we first started, we quickly realized how little information was available and just how overwhelming and intimidating it can be to dive into freeze-drying. We had so many questions: How much space would we need? How long does the process take? How much can we freeze-dry at once? What about electricity use, prepping trays, and operating the machine? The learning curve was steep, and finding clear answers took time.
After plenty of research, trial, and error, we’ve successfully freeze-dried a variety of foods—from single fruits and tropical mixes to powders, vegetables, eggs, and even fun treats like Rice Krispies and candies! Along the way, we kept getting asked the same questions and realized how much we enjoyed sharing what we’ve learned.
